Statement on FERC DER Ruling

Durham, N.C. – September 17, 2020 – Modern Energy is delighted to see FERC finalize the rules to remove barriers for the participation of distributed energy resources (DERs) in wholesale markets. This ruling enables DERs to compete with traditional resources to provide energy, ancillary services, and capacity and is a huge win for consumers. We urge all stakeholders-including RTOs/ISOs and states-to implement the requirements in the rule to fully realize the benefits of DERs. These benefits include increased competition, lower rates, and greater grid reliability. This FERC ruling is an important step to achieve a sustainable, affordable, and equitable electricity system.
